Mayweather vs. McGregor was always going to be more of a spectacle than a sporting event, and so far we’ve had our fair share of drama. The MayMac World Tour delivered some quality trash talk (as well as some casual racism and homophobia), and the ongoing beef between Paulie Malignaggi and the McGregor camp has provided more than enough tabloid fodder.
With the fight less than a month away, let’s take a look at how the betting lines have shifted. We’ll also check out some interesting prop bets available to us. And if you’re interested in placing a bet, check out our experts’ reviews of the top betting sites before putting any money down.
Mayweather vs. McGregor Odds
Opening odds to win:
Current odds to win:
Odds Mayweather wins by:
KO, TKO or DQ: -140
Decision or Technical Decision: +200
Unanimous Decision: +225
Betting on McGregor was never a smart pick, but now, more than ever, is a bad time to put money down on the MMA fighter. As more money pours in for McGregor, mostly from his devotees and casual fight fans, bookmakers are shifting the line in his favor.
If you were considering putting money down on Mayweather then this is a good time to do so. However, you’ll get better value by prop betting on his method of victory. Decision at +200 and KO at +300 are both great odds.
Odds the Malignaggi sparring tape is released: 15/1
Former two-division champ Paulie Malignaggi quit the McGregor camp in a fit of rage and recently spilled the beans on his sparring partner, calling him arrogant, cheap, and dishonest.
The flare up was a result of a picture the McGregor camp posted of Malignaggi apparently being knocked down. Malignaggi claims McGregor had pushed him onto the canvas and dared his camp to release the sparring video as proof.
It’s unlikely that we’ll ever get to see the video, though. As it stands, Malignaggi is just a blip on McGregor’s radar. The “Notorious” has bigger fish to fry.
Odds the event sells out: 2/1
If you want to see the fight in person, you’ll have to be willing to fork out at least $3,500. And that’s for the cheapest tickets. For a decent view, you’re looking at around $15,000.
With prices like that, it’s no wonder why tickets are still available. Mayweather and McGregor have done everything they can to promote the fight, but there’s still the inescapable reality that this is an extremely lopsided match-up.
But as I said earlier, the event was always more about entertainment than the sport itself, and fight fans are definitely entertained.
Odds either fighter is arrested before the fight: 9/1
You may have heard the fight had been canceled after Floyd Mayweather was arrested. Well, you heard wrong. “Money” Mayweather and “Notorious” McGregor aren’t exactly boy scouts, but at least they’re steering clear of the law – for now.
